New Faroe Islands National Team Coach.
The Faroese Football Association (FSF) announced the appointment, following the departure of former head coach Håkan Ericson earlier this year.
With Klakstein at the helm, the FSF is placing its faith in homegrown leadership and a coach who knows the Faroese football landscape better than most.
Born and raised in the football-mad town of Klaksvík, Klakstein has been a central figure at KÍ Klaksvík throughout much of his career. He also earned several caps for the Faroe Islands national team, where he was known for his discipline and understanding of the game.
As a coach, Klakstein has enjoyed considerable domestic success, notably with KÍ’s women’s team, which he guided to multiple league titles and cup triumphs. He later took on roles within the club’s senior men’s setup and has played a key part in the development of youth talent across the islands, shaping the next generation of Faroese footballers.
In his first statement as national team coach, Klakstein expressed both pride and ambition:
“To be appointed as national coach of my own country is a tremendous honour. I know the culture, the players, and the passion we have here. With hard work and a clear strategy, I believe we can achieve results that will make the Faroe Islands proud.”
